Our unforgettable stay at Barnett Hill, Surrey

We escaped to the Surrey Hills to enjoy an unforgettable stay and live out our Bridgerton dreams at Barnett Hill, better known as the ‘gingerbread-brick palace’. The pet friendly chic boutique hotel has a total of 44 stylish rooms, suites and residences and is surrounded by 26 acres for guests to enjoy.

Barnett Hill is part of the Alexander Hotel Collection, a group of charmingly luxurious hotels found in Sussex, Surrey and Kent. Each hotel in the collection has been carefully designed and are all dedicated to providing outstanding hospitality and relaxation for their guests.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Barnett Hill was originally a private estate, home to the Thomas Cook family. Now a hotel, the grounds can be enjoyed by guests and even those that are four-legged and fluffy are welcomed. You didn’t think we’d leave Moose behind did you?

As we drove up the tree-lined driveway surrounded by spring flowers we instantaneously relaxed. We reached the top of the hill and couldn’t park our car quick enough. We followed the stone path through the trees to the hotel’s entrance and made our way through Barnet Hill’s grand hallway to reception.

We were greeted with a big smile, which, as expected got even bigger when they saw one very waggy tail waiting at the desk. The gentleman on reception checked us in promptly before giving Moose a cuddle. Moose being Moose gave him a fair few licks in return. He then offered to carry our luggage before personally showing us to the Courtyard were our room was waiting for us.

ROOM 38

As I mentioned earlier, Barnett Hill has a total of 44 rooms, include suites and residences all individually designed with a focus on the fine details. Our room, room 38 was located in the Courtyard, a ‘self contained horseshoe of luxury accommodation’ with a private terraced entrance.

We opened our door and there in front was a staircase leading up to the room. Moose couldn’t get up those stairs quick enough, he was so excited! As was I, eager to see what would be waiting for us at the top.

Room 38 exceeded all our expectations. Spacious, stylish, cosy and luxurious are all words that come to mind. The room featured an intimate dinner table, a cosy seating area, flat screen TV, espresso coffee and a bed fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets just waiting to be jumped on. And should I mention the beautiful free standing bath tub? Take a guess at my plans for the evening…

Our room had views overlooking the estate, Surrey Hills and beyond which we enjoyed whilst devouring the delicious welcome treats left by the team for our arrival.

FOOD AND DRINK

The Oak Room is an incredible two AA-rosette restaurant at Barnett Hill serving up some of the finest produce found in the Surrey Hills. Dogs are not able to eat in The Oak Room but they are welcome to dine with you in the Library or their newly launched 1905 bar, which is where the team had arranged our dinner.

Barnett Hill’s 1905 bar offers a relaxed dining experience with the same delicious menu and uninterrupted views of the garden. The staff were attentive and charming. I enjoyed the Warm Bread Selection to start, the Earl Grey Tea Roasted Broccoli Steak for main and for dessert, the delicious Chocolate and Ginger Fondant.

If you think dinner looked good then breakfast took our stay to a whole new level. We were asked if we wanted to enjoy breakfast in the 1905 bar again or whether we’d like to opt for breakfast in bed… Can you guess which one we went for?

We picked our breakfast choices that evening and the following day were greeted by room service at our door promptly at the time we requested. Coffee, fresh juice, pancakes, fruit, yoghurt, warm pastries, full English breakfast and smashed avocado on toast filled the tray that was left on our bed. When Barnett Hill say they’ve set a few tummy’s rumbling, they’re not kidding.

You can see all of Barnett Hill’s menus here.

MOOSE AND HIS STAY

If Moose could speak he probably wouldn’t stop talking about his stay at Barnett Hill. He was treated like royalty by staff and managed to put the biggest smiles on all other guests faces, he even made a few friends with other four-legged friends.

Moose had his very own bed waiting for him in Room 38, along with doggy dinner bowls and a tin of his favourite treats! Moose was quite happy to call Barnett Hill his new home.

THE GROUNDS

The elegant Queen Anne-style mansion sits at the top of a hill surrounded by 26 acres of Surrey’s finest woodland. There is opportunity to explore more of Surrey Hill’s natural beauty from one of the scenic walking trails that lies on Barnett Hill’s doorstep. It seems you’ll never run out of places to discover should you stay here.

tWhether you’re in need of a romantic weekend, an escape to the Surrey Hills or a dog friendly break, Barnett Hill provides the luxury and relaxation that you can only dream of. We are already looking forward to our next stay.
