I have spent the last couple of days getting organised for my trip and it is by no means easy packing a year into a rucksack. However let’s be honest, I don’t own a years worth of clothing and even if I did it wouldn’t be something I’d like to carry around on my back!
I opted to go down the rucksack route as I think this will allow more freedom when travelling and after plenty of research into “what brand is best” and there is A LOT, I really liked the Osprey Farpoint 70. It’s super comfy, made with quality materials and comes with a detachable day pack perfect for days out. If you’re like me and like some order and organisation I would recommend getting some packing cubes as they truly are a game changer when it comes to organising your pack! You know exactly where everything is, it keeps clothes clean and tidy and it creates a lot more space.
When it came to deciding what to take, my goal was to be decisive and pack lightly. I have packed enough for 2 weeks and am fully aware and prepared to do laundry! When packing, I also took into account that it is currently summer in Australia and so it’s going to be HOT HOT HOT ☀️ Therefore there it would be silly to pack winter coats, woolly hats and thick jumpers.
So here goes, below is my list of what I’ve packed for the next year:

So that’s it, I understand that my packing list may not work for everyone and as this is something I have never done before I may have packed things that I really do not need or I may have made a rooky error and forgotten something crucial!
In truth, I am not going to find out until I get there. But let’s face it, it’s not like I am going to the middle of nowhere, so anything i’m missing or need can be bought out there. As a newbie to this, I hope my advice as to what to pack for a year of traveling comes in handy to others in a similar situation!
